Fire in Guesthouse Claims Seven Lives

On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, a massive fire engulfed a guesthouse in the village of Tohani, Prahova County, Romania, resulting in the death of seven people, including at least two children.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations stated that the guesthouse was accommodating 26 guests at the time of the fire.

Emergency response teams arrived at the location in the early morning of Tuesday. The intensity of the fire necessitated the formation of search and rescue units, following initial reports of five individuals unaccounted for.

The current number of missing persons remains unclear, but authorities have confirmed that 18 individuals successfully evacuated from the building, with two receiving treatment for burns at a local medical facility.

Firefighting units managed to suppress the blaze by approximately 12:45 p.m. on the same day. Search and rescue efforts persisted even after the fire was controlled.

The fire consumed an area of around 10,800 square feet. Images released by emergency services showed the structure largely gutted by the fire, with firefighters working diligently to manage the situation.

As of now, the origin of the fire is undetermined, and no clear cause has been identified.

An official investigation into the fire is currently underway.
