Ralph Cirella, a renowned figure in the entertainment industry and the longtime stylist and friend of radio host Howard Stern, died on December 5, 2023, at the age of 58. Cirella passed away during a medical procedure, undergoing treatment for a rare lymphoma variant.

Born on April 20, 1965, Cirella’s journey with Howard Stern started in 1985 when he called into Stern’s radio show. He grew to be a key figure on “The Howard Stern Show,” serving not only as Stern’s stylist but also as a wardrobe advisor and set designer. Additionally, Cirella played a pivotal role in introducing Stern to Beth Ostrosky, who would become Stern’s wife.

Cirella significantly influenced both the show and its host. On his SiriusXM show, Howard Stern announced Cirella’s death, remembering him as a trusted and cherished friend, with a relationship spanning over four decades. Stern shared his sorrow over Cirella’s passing, particularly noting that Cirella had delayed seeking medical attention for his illness, which Stern believed to be treatable.

Cirella’s career extended beyond his association with Stern, encompassing roles as a makeup artist and costume designer. From 1989 to 2007, he shaped the visual identity of Stern’s shows. Actor John Stamos also paid homage to Cirella, recalling their long friendship that began in the 1990s.

Cirella’s first interaction with the Stern show marked a turning point in his career and initiated a lifelong friendship with Stern. His original call into the show, requesting a Connie Francis Christmas song for his mother, laid the groundwork for their professional and personal relationship. Cirella was recognized for his humor and a special connection with Stern, characterized by a “secret language” that exemplified their close bond.

Despite his achievements, Cirella’s health became a major concern. Stern highlighted in his announcement that Cirella had not addressed his medical condition in a timely manner, leading to severe complications. The nature of his illness, a rare type of lymphoma, was noted as treatable, suggesting that earlier treatment could have potentially changed the outcome.

In his memory, individuals like Stern and Stamos are expressing their sorrow and sharing memories of Cirella. He is remembered as an irreplaceable personality, leaving a significant gap in a community and a show where he had been a central figure for many years.
