In Omaha, Nebraska, on Thanksgiving, November 23, 2023, a 10-year-old boy suffered a fatal gunshot, resulting in his father’s arrest.

Responding to a late-night shooting report, Omaha Police Department officers arrived at a residence on North 31st Avenue at approximately 11:30 p.m. They discovered Kendrick McDonald with a gunshot wound. Omaha Fire Department personnel provided immediate aid and transported him to Nebraska Medicine, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Will McDonald, 47, the boy’s father, was arrested on multiple charges, including criminal homicide, illegal firearm use, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited individual.

Initial investigations suggest that Will McDonald had gone outside due to a car alarm near his home, possibly influencing the night’s tragic outcome. A handgun was found at the scene.

Omaha Police Department’s Captain Jeremy Christensen highlighted the ongoing investigation’s complexity, noting the possibility that Will McDonald may have confused his son for a car thief due to the alarm, though this remains unconfirmed.

Will McDonald is detained without bond at Douglas County Jail, awaiting further investigation outcomes.
