Darrell Cunningham was a dedicated five-year veteran officer with the Los Angeles Police Department who tragically lost his life in a crash on November 4, 2023.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Lindley Avenue in Northridge, California.

According to police, a 20-year old drunk driver named Brian David Oliveri was speeding over 100 miles an hour in a black BMW when he ran a red light and struck the white Infiniti driven by Officer Cunningham, who was off-duty at the time. Tragically, the force of the impact immediately killed Cunningham and his front seat passenger. An off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy riding in the back seat survived with injuries. Oliveri and his passenger were hospitalized after the crash, with Oliveri in critical condition. He now faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter.

Chief Michel R. Moore of the LAPD publicly mourned the loss of Cunningham, extending his deepest condolences to Cunningham’s fiancée and their two young sons, aged six and three years old.
