In a Facebook statement shared on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, authorities confirmed that four teenagers lost their lives while on a camping trip to Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, United Kingdom.
The boys, Wilf Fitchett (also reported as Wilf Henderson), Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, and Hugo Morris, aged between 16 and 18, hailed from Shrewsbury, England, and were last heard from on Sunday morning, November 19, 2023. They were reported missing by their parents on Monday, and on Tuesday their bodies were discovered in a vehicle that had veered off the road.
According to North Wales Police Superintendent Owain Llewellyn, the incident appears to have been an accident.
The discovery of the teenagers was made following a tip received Tuesday morning. A member of the public alerted the authorities to a Ford Fiesta found upside down and partially submerged in water in the Porthmadog area of Wales. This region, known for its picturesque beauty, is a common destination for hikers and campers, featuring Mount Snowdon, the highest point in the U.K. outside the Scottish Highlands.
The young men, all from Shrewsbury College, were on a camping excursion in the Eryri area, also known as Snowdonia. In a statement, the college thanked the emergency services and local mountain rescue teams for their efforts and assured that support measures are in place for students and staff affected by the accident.
The road where the incident occurred remained closed as police conducted a thorough investigation.
