The city of Cincinnati, Ohio, suffered the loss of an 11-year-old boy, Dominic Davis, after a shooting on the West End on the night of November 3, 2023. The Cincinnati Police Department reported the incident occurred around 9:30 pm, leading to the dispatch of officers following multiple shots being fired, 22 in a quick burst. Upon arrival, they found six individuals with gunshot wounds.
According to authorities, Dominic was found dead at the scene. The other five victims, children ranging in age from 12 to 15, and a 53-year-old woman, were quickly taken to local hospitals due to varying degrees of injuries. Three of the victims are fighting for their lives in critical condition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, while two others are receiving care at the University of Cincinnati Hospital.
In response to the tragedy, Cincinnati Police have taken measures to maintain public trust by releasing body cam footage that documents the officers’ responses to the shooting. This move is part of a broader initiative to ensure transparency, especially as the community grapples with the consequences of the violent episode.
Isaac Davis, Dominic’s father, made a heartfelt appeal for witnesses to come forward during a news conference. Cincinnati City Manager Sheryl Long also spoke, sharing her personal connection to gun violence and reaffirming her dedication to seeking justice for the victims.
Police Chief Terri Theetge joined in the calls for justice, urging the shooter to surrender and emphasizing the police’s resolve to see the perpetrator brought to justice. Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, alongside other officials, has publicly condemned the shooting, describing the violence as an unacceptable plague on the community.
Detectives are currently pursuing all leads in the active investigation, examining evidence, and urging members of the public to come forward with any information that might assist in making an arrest.
