Candidate Dies at Polling Station on Election Day

David “Red” Worrall, a Republican candidate for an at-large seat on the town council in Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, 2023. He collapsed while at the Renaissance Academy polling station, leading to his untimely death.

Worrall, 59, was actively engaging with voters outside the polling station when he suddenly collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The immediate cause of his death was not disclosed. In the election, he posthumously secured the third position, as indicated by unofficial voting results.

A long-standing resident of Clarksville and an auto repair shop owner, Worrall was known for his commitment to public service. He was attempting a political comeback after previously serving on the town council. His earlier departure from the council was due to health issues.

Clarksville’s town administration and council members expressed their sorrow over Worrall’s passing, offering condolences to his family and friends. They acknowledged his significant contributions to the community and his influence on local public services.
