In Keene, Texas, on October 5, a judicial decision was made convicting a 13-year-old boy for the death of a 32-year-old Sonic Drive-In worker.

The incident had its roots in May, within the parking lot of the Sonic restaurant.

The spark for the confrontation was Angel Gomez, the boy’s uncle, urinating in the parking lot. This act led to a dispute with Matthew Davis, a Sonic employee. During the disagreement, the boy, stationed in the car’s rear seat, took possession of an AR-style weapon. Without delay, he aimed and shot multiple times at Davis, resulting in lethal injuries.

After the shooting event, Gomez and his nephew fled the area. However, Gomez subsequently returned to the scene and was detained on a murder-related warrant. The boy was later apprehended in another town, thanks to the diligent efforts of the police.

Given the defendant’s age, the trial became a focal point of interest. The jury arrived at a conclusion, determining the boy had committed delinquent conduct, a term in juvenile justice that aligns with a guilty finding in the adult judicial system.

The community has been deeply affected by the sudden loss of Davis, with numerous individuals voicing their disbelief and sorrow. Sentencing for the boy will be decided shortly by the juvenile court, and the consequences could range from probationary measures to a substantial jail term.

In relation to this case, Angel Gomez is waiting for his trial. Legal documents reveal that Gomez has been charged with manipulating or falsifying evidence.
