In April 2022, a devastating event occurred in Concord, New Hampshire that deeply affected the local community. Stephen Reid, 67, and Djeswende ‘Wendy’ Reid, 66, a retired couple known for their humanitarian work, were shot and killed near their residence.

The Reids were taking a peaceful walk close to their home when the tragedy occurred. Later, their bodies were found hidden in the forest, covered with leaves, sticks, and other natural debris. This horrific discovery started an extensive police investigation.

In the early stages of the probe, police interviewed a man using the name “Arthur Kelly.” Investigators soon identified him as Logan Clegg, 27. Clegg had been living in a campsite near the Reid’s home for several months. The police had initially nicknamed him the “Mountain Dew Man” due to several dozen Mountain Dew cans found in his possession. As the investigation became more intense, Clegg burned his campsite and tried to leave New Hampshire.

Using a blend of traditional police work and modern technology, officials tracked down Clegg’s movements. His purchase records and phone signals led them to the South Burlington Public Library in Vermont on October 12, 2022. He was taken into custody there. At his arrest, the police found a one-way ticket to Berlin, Germany, a false passport, and a gun in his bag.

Throughout the trial, the prosecution provided compelling evidence against Clegg. The shell casings and bullets from where the Reids were killed matched the weapon found with Clegg.

However, the defense made their points as well. They stated that the ballistics test results were not clear-cut. They also argued that Clegg’s attempt to flee wasn’t because of the murders but due to past crimes in Utah, which included burglary and theft.

Clegg’s past actions give a clearer picture of his character. He was previously connected to crimes in other states. In Spokane, Washington, in 2018, he was part of a killing in self-defense but wasn’t charged due to lack of evidence. Also, in Utah in 2020, he was caught shoplifting and had mentioned his strong dislike for being in jail.

After two days of mulling it over, the jury decided that Logan Clegg was guilty on all accounts. The Reids’ family has found some solace with this verdict. Their son expressed his gratitude and wished that people would remember his parents for their charitable work.

Logan Clegg’s sentencing will be on December 15. For now, he is in the Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord, New Hampshire without the option of bail.
