On the early morning of October 8, 2023 in north Phoenix, 19-year-old Daniel Windus shot his 54-year-old father inside their home.

He subsequently took his own life near an automobile outside the house.

Police arrived on the scene following a 911 call made by a concerned woman, who was later identified as the deceased man’s wife, Mrs. Windus.

Mrs. Windus informed the 911 operators that she believed her son had shot her husband, Preston, within their residence.

Upon police arrival, Daniel was located inside a car in their driveway. She then told officers about her husband being inside the house, unresponsive due to the shooting.

The situation became more complex for the Phoenix Police Department when they learned from Mrs. Windus about “possible hazards” inside the residence during the 911 call. This necessitated a cautious approach to the scene. With concerns about potential dangers, a bomb squad was dispatched to the home and nearby houses were evacuated. After conducting a detailed search, no hazardous items or devices were found inside.

The ongoing investigation has prompted law enforcement to request individuals with relevant knowledge about the situation to share it. This information might aid in constructing a clearer picture of the events.
