Landing Plane’s Wing Collides with Woman on Lawnmower

On September 29, at the Broken Bow Airport in Oklahoma, a landing plane’s wing struck a 27-year-old woman. She was working at the airport on a lawnmower at the time of the event.

Samantha Hayes, originating from Idabel, Oklahoma, and a single mother to three children, was employed by the city’s parks department during the accident.

James Baxter, the pilot of the plane, is 70 years of age and was controlling a 1972 Beechcraft Bonanza A36. When he saw Hayes during his descent, he made an effort to halt the landing to prevent a mishap. The small airport has no air-traffic controllers on site for help and, unfortunately, Baxter’s efforts did not suffice as he could not elevate the plane quickly enough, leading to the wing making contact with Hayes’s head.

In light of the event, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is carrying out an inquiry to see if there’s a possibility to hold Baxter accountable. Baxter emerged from the incident without any harm.

Hayes had a reputation in her community for her dedication both in her professional life and as a mother. The loss of Hayes has had a profound impact, with the community offering their support and condolences to her children.
