On Saturday, September 30, a fatal boat crash occurred along the Fox River in McHenry, Illinois.

An incident unfolded when a speeding motorboat seen bouncing and weaving on the river unexpectedly swerved and left the boundaries of the river and struck a house. The force of the collision was such that the boat was divided into two parts.

Camera systems in the vicinity recorded the boat as it sped toward land. After reaching the shore, it didn’t come to an immediate halt. Instead, it covered a distance of 73 feet on land before hitting the home. The house itself experienced slight damages.

Julie and Timothy Mertins were the occupants of the boat. Julie, aged 61, found under the boat, faced intense injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival by the responders. Timothy, aged 62, was severely injured and required immediate medical attention. He was airlifted for medical treatment but succumbed during a surgical procedure. The medical reports confirmed blunt force trauma as the cause of death for both.

In the following month, the couple was to mark their 33rd wedding anniversary. Their close bond was well-known, and they were often seen engaging in mutual interests.

As of now, the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident are still under review. Some witnesses have pointed to the boat’s speed as a factor. Authorities are also looking into the toxicology report, hoping it might provide additional information about the incident.
