Freshman Dies After Balcony Fall

On Sunday morning, October 15, 2023, a freshman from Texas A&M University fell from a third-floor balcony at Dunn Hall on the College Station campus, resulting in her death.

The student has been identified as Britney Romero. She had enrolled in the university with an aim to major in health, and her expected year of graduation was 2027. As of now, the circumstances that led her to be on that particular balcony haven’t been clarified. Additionally, it’s not clear if there were any individuals who might have witnessed the incident.

Upon discovering Romero’s body in the courtyard of Dunn Hall, the Texas A&M University Police Department commenced an investigation. To determine the precise cause of death, an autopsy has been requested.

In response to the incident, Vice President for Student Affairs, Joe Ramirez, reached out to the university’s student body. His communication highlighted the university’s commitment to its students’ safety and well-being. Ramirez has also confirmed that the institution would conduct a thorough assessment of this incident in an effort to avoid such incidents in the future.

Joe Ramirez further emphasized the importance of mental health and well-being by urging students who may be facing difficulties to consult the university’s counselors and caseworkers. The university remains engaged with the ongoing investigation and is offering its full cooperation to ensure clarity. Simultaneously, support is being extended to Britney Romero’s family and the larger university community.
