On October 14, 2023, around 12:47 PM, the Modesto, California, Police Department received a distressing 911 call from the Crown Ridge Apartments, reporting a possible assault incident

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a deceased four-year-old girl who had been stabbed with a knife.

The mother of the girl, 34-year-old Mina Nazari, was later arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Nazari is currently facing charges of first-degree murder and child abuse leading to the death of her daughter, Sana Akram. Additionally, she is also being accused of attempting to murder her 10-year-old son, with further charges including assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment, as reported.

Nazari has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. She is currently being held at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center without bail. A court hearing regarding the case has been scheduled for October 24.

The aftermath of the incident has left the community shocked. A neighbor expressed concern, stating thoughts about the husband and the young boy who survived the ordeal. The incident’s lasting impact on the surviving child, who now has to grapple with the knowledge of his mother’s actions, is of grave concern for many.

With the legal process underway, the Stanislaus County District Attorney announced on October 17 that their office would be pressing charges against Nazari in relation to the incident.
