Hiram Police reported a shooting incident at the Walmart Super Center on Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Georgia around 7:30 pm Wednesday, September 20.

According to Police Chief Mike Turner, the event is believed to be a murder-suicide involving a young male and female who had a previous relationship.

Turner clarified that the incident involved two people who knew each other and emphasized that it was not an active shooter situation.

Officers found both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds and rushed them to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where they were declared dead upon arrival. Shoppers present at the scene described their fear and panic as shots rang out, leading them to evacuate the store.

In response to the incident, Walmart expressed its deep sadness and pledged cooperation with investigators. The store has been temporarily closed while authorities conduct their investigation.

Similar incidents have occurred in various Walmart locations in recent years, including a mass shooting in Chesapeake, Virginia, in 2022, where six victims and the shooter lost their lives. Notably, this recent incident in Hiram is approximately 15 miles away from a previous shooting outside a Walmart in Marietta, Georgia.
