Three people, including a three-year-old child, died in a shooting incident at an apartment complex in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, September 24, 2023.

The unfortunate event is believed to be a result of a disagreement related to a dog sale. After receiving reports of gunshots, the police arrived at an apartment on A.C. Skinner Parkway in Jacksonville around 10:00 p.m.

Details shared by Assistant Chief J.D. Stronko during a press conference indicated that five individuals had made their way to the apartment, possibly for the purpose of selling a dog. However, a dispute occurred, and four of the five people were shot, with three of them, including the child, succumbing to their injuries.

The identities of two adult victims were said to be in their 20s, with the third yet to be disclosed. On the lookout for those responsible, witnesses reported seeing two males leaving in what appeared to be a black sedan.

Kae’lynn Marie Matthews was named as the young victim by a local media outlet. Her grandmother described Matthews’ fondness for school and the game of hide and seek and clarified that Matthews did not live at that apartment.

Rachel, who resides in the same apartment complex, described to the media the unsettling moment she heard the gunshots and subsequent screams. She noted the shock of such incidents happening so close, adding, “My thoughts are with the families.”
