On Wednesday, September 13, a 27-year-old man from Minnesota was arrested after allegedly admitting to taking the life of his seven-year-old brother.
Dalal Bayle Idd has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in relation to the death of Abdullahi Adod Gelle, according to court documents.
A report from the Eden Prairie Police Department indicates that Idd made several 911 calls. Initially, he informed the operator that he had done something but wasn’t clear about his actions. As the conversation continued, he admitted to harming someone and said he acted “for the greater good.” He further told the dispatcher, “God told me to do something to prove that I’m not God.”
Police went to the address in the 9000 block of Lee Drive in Eden Prairie, identified as the home of Idd’s parents. Upon arrival, Idd mentioned experiencing mental health issues and was subsequently taken to the hospital for an evaluation. He also voiced fears of how his mother might react after learning of his actions.
While searching the house, officers discovered two children safe and asleep. However, Abdullahi was found unresponsive. Immediate attempts were made to save the boy, but he died after being transported to a nearby hospital. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s report indicated signs consistent with asphyxia, associated with strangulation.
Court records indicate that this isn’t Idd’s first encounter with the legal system. In 2014, he was convicted of first-degree assault and aggravated robbery, leading to a 103-month sentence in a state correctional facility.
