On September 15, 2023, a disturbing discovery was made in Czerniki, a village in northern Poland. In a house that villagers often referred to as the “house of horrors,” authorities found the remains of three newborns.Â
Piotr Gierasik, 54, and his daughter, Paulina Gierasik, 20, the home’s occupants, are under scrutiny for murder and an alleged incestuous relationship.
A comprehensive search by the police revealed the bodies of the infants, wrapped in black plastic bags. One body was determined to have been lifeless for nearly three weeks. The exact site of the find was a pit, reached by navigating a dimly lit, unstable corridor. Information hints at Piotr being the biological father of these infants, two of them being Paulina’s and one from her sister.
Past behaviors of the father and daughter had raised eyebrows in the community. Paulina’s peers from a cake shop in a nearby village had witnessed peculiar interactions between the two. They noted Piotr’s unusual decision to shave Paulina’s head and her almost devotional attitude towards him.
Concerns were amplified when Paulina returned from vacation earlier than expected, appearing gaunt. Indications, like the use of belts to alter her figure, led to speculations of a recent pregnancy. However, she dismissed these accusations. Additional suspicions arose due to her father’s overt involvement in her daily routine and her casual reference to him by his first name. Alleged text messages discussing a living child were seen on her phone by her co-workers.
Store manager Katarzyna Matyszczak spoke about the prevalent discussions related to the family, also noting that Paulina had negated any suspicions regarding her pregnancy.
However, post the revelation, some locals expressed their disbelief, citing instances like Piotr’s routine family outings and home improvements to vouch for his apparent normalcy.
Currently, the two face serious allegations, including murder and incest, with the possibility of life incarceration. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to ascertain the cause of the infants’ deaths.
