South Carolina Shooting Leaves 3 Teens Dead; 2 Arrested

On September 24, 2023, a shooting incident occurred on Saddletrail Road in Columbia, South Carolina, resulting in three casualties.

Deputies from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, upon their arrival at the Saddletrail Road location, found four individuals with gunshot wounds. Three of the injured were subsequently taken to a nearby medical facility, where they later passed away.

The deceased were named as Caleb Wise, Dre’von Riley, both 16, and Jakobe Fanning, 17. All three were students at Eau Claire High School. Additionally, another individual, aged 14, suffered injuries during the event but was treated and discharged from the hospital.

The authorities have detained two individuals regarding the incident. The two, Jahkeem Griffin and Karlos Gibson, both 17 years old, face charges including three counts of murder, one of attempted murder, and several weapons-related charges.

The Richland County Sheriff, Leon Lott, provided further context, suggesting that the recent event has roots in a prior burglary dispute. 

Columbia, South Carolina has seen 17 teenage shooting victims this year so far.
