collision between a school bus and a tow truck on Route 115 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, September 6, led to the hospitalization of 49 children and two adults.

The school bus, which was transporting 54 students from kindergarten to eighth grade to Bear Creek Community Charter School in Wilkes-Barre, was involved in the accident around 8:10 am. This incident was confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Police at a press conference

By Wednesday afternoon, Bear Creek Community Charter School CEO Jim Smith reported that four of the 49 hospitalized children were still receiving care for moderate injuries. Both the bus driver, Suzanne Ent, 53, and the tow truck driver, Edward Steinmann, 28, were also hospitalized with moderate injuries.

State police Captain Patrick Dougherty provided an update on the probable cause of the crash. He said it is believed that the tow truck driver might have experienced a medical emergency while driving, which led him to veer into the bus’s path. Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage, as evident from photos taken at the accident scene.

On-site, medical practitioners treated the students and released most to their guardians. However, some were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital.
