On August 8, a Seattle Uber driver was fatally shot during a carjacking.

Law enforcement has detained an 18-year-old woman, Ne’iana Allen-Bailey, in connection with the crime.

The victim, 52-year-old Amare Geda, was in his Toyota Prius when the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 am. Allen-Bailey is believed to have approached the vehicle, shot Geda, and driven away in the Prius.

Investigators, having found no connection between the suspect and Geda’s rideshare operations, arrested Allen-Bailey three days after the incident. Reports suggest she utilized the stolen vehicle for errands over a two-day period, including having her hair done.

Geda, a father of two, had been working diligently for 14 years, juggling two jobs to provide for his family. He drove for both Uber and Lyft during the night and was employed at the airport in the daytime.

The Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association extended their sympathies, emphasizing Geda’s commitment to his family. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help his family and cover costs for Geda’s funeral in Ethiopia, raising over $68,000.

Allen-Bailey was incarcerated on August 11 and is currently held on a bond of $2 million.
