A daycare worker is facing charges after the death of a one-year-old girl who was left in a sweltering van.

Ra’Miyah Worthington lost her life on Monday in Omaha, Nebraska, after being left inside a vehicle at the Kidz of the Future Child Development Center II, according to reports.

The daycare proprietor’s van was used on Monday morning, August 21, to transport Worthington and her two siblings to the daycare. The young child was mistakenly left behind while the siblings were safely removed from the vehicle upon arrival at the daycare.

Authorities believe Worthington was in the van for approximately five hours before being discovered.

The Omaha Police Department’s Child Special Victims Unit is investigating the case, responding to an emergency call at 3:06 pm about an unresponsive child in the van.

Paramedics rushed Worthington to Nebraska Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The van’s driver, identified as 62-year-old Ryan Williams, was taken into custody on charges of child abuse due to neglect resulting in death.

The child’s parents expressed their anguish and disbelief at a rally. Sina Johnson, the mother, mourned the loss of her baby and questioned how such an incident could happen. Rianna Worthington, the father, raised concerns about the daycare’s digital record, revealing that the daycare’s app did not indicate the child’s attendance on the day of the incident.

Kidz of the Future Child Development Center II has not yet commented on the incident.

A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support the Worthington family during their time of grief.
