Obama’s Warning to Biden About Trump

Former President Barack Obama issued a cautionary message to his successor, Joe Biden, urging him not to underestimate the political power of former President Donald Trump.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Obama highlighted Trump’s dedicated base and his significant media backing in a politically divided nation.

The advisory discussion took place during a lunch on June 27 at the White House, a routine gathering for the two leaders. The conversation also touched upon personal topics, including Biden’s vacation plans, which were later changed due to high temperatures in Palm Springs.

Recent polling data indicates that both Biden and Trump hold 43 percent support concerning a potential 2024 presidential run. However, Trump’s dominance in the Republican primary is evident, leading Florida Governor Ron DeSantis by 37 points.

Obama’s cautionary note was not a critique of Biden’s political skills but an acknowledgment of Trump’s strong grip on the Republican party. After their luncheon, Obama participated in a campaign event for Biden, emphasizing the importance of grassroots donations.

In the upcoming months, Obama will be involved in fundraising activities, including an event in Martha’s Vineyard for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. He also intends to bolster Biden’s fundraising initiatives in the fall.

A representative from the Biden campaign acknowledged Obama’s continued support, looking forward to a collaborative campaign effort in 2024. Obama’s advice underscores the importance of recognizing the political landscape and potential challenges.
