A woman from Florida killed her two children before taking her own life in what authorities believe is a murder-suicide, after losing a child custody case against her ex.
Brandy Hutchins, a resident of a Lake Wales mobile home, allegedly took the lives of her 10-year-old son, Aiden Hutchins, and her 19-year-old daughter, before fatally shooting herself.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Hutchins was instructed to hand over her son to his father in Maine by 6 pm on Friday, August 26, but she missed the appointment.
After being informed of the court order breach, the sheriff’s office began their search. The search ended on Sunday afternoon when deputies found the bodies of the mother and her two children.
Judd mentioned the absence of any criminal record or previous indicators of violent tendencies in Hutchins.
The older child, who had a different father, was not involved in the ongoing custody dispute.
The father of Aiden Hutchins shared his grief on social media after the discovery. “He will forever be in my heart and did not deserve this,” he wrote.
