In the early hours of Tuesday, August 7, a 25-year-old man met a tragic end following a car accident on the Manhattan Bridge.

According to police records, the man was involved in a minor collision with an Uber vehicle on the bridge’s lower level at approximately 1:45 am. Instead of staying at the scene, he chose to leave on foot. Tragically, during his escape, he fell from a high section of the bridge.

A pedestrian later found the man’s body at the crossroads of Henry and Forsyth Streets on the Lower East Side. Emergency services were quick to the scene, and the man was taken to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival with massive head injuries.

The identity of the deceased has not been released to the public.

Authorities are currently investigating the events leading up to the man’s decision to leave the accident scene and the subsequent fall. Investigators believe he may have been drinking and ran away to avoid a drunk-driving arrest.
