A 48-year-old California man stands accused of murdering his wife, allegedly by poisoning her with fentanyl.

A distressing incident unfolded on January 12, 2023, when Glennis Smith, 48, from California, reported his wife’s unresponsiveness to emergency services. Jennifer Smith-Floyd, 49, and Smith had been married for half a decade but had separated for a few months.

Upon the emergency team’s arrival at Smith’s residence, they found Jennifer Smith-Floyd unresponsive, and she was declared dead.

Postmortem examinations detected fentanyl in her body. It’s alleged that Smith had administered the drug to her twice, because the previous day, January 11, she had been to the emergency room with what was determined to be an allergic reaction, as mentioned by Sgt. Jason Jimenez from the Elk Grove Police Department.

Further investigations revealed that Smith, after his wife’s death, supposedly set their travel trailer on fire, presumably for insurance fraud purposes.

Smith’s past includes a prison term for spousal rape involving a different wife.

The family fondly remembers Jennifer Smith-Floyd as a dedicated mother and a staunch supporter of women’s rights. She is mourned by her two children.
