A Thorndale, Pennsylvania couple is facing charges related to involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and reckless endangerment, following their son’s death due to fentanyl.
Jason Moore, 36, and Amanda Moore, 35 turned themselves in on August 11.
On November 29, 2022, the Caln Township Police responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive four-year-old. On arrival, they observed Jason Moore attempting CPR on the child, which the emergency team then continued. The boy was later confirmed dead at the Children’s Hospital in King of Prussia.
The parents had reportedly left their eldest child, aged 13, in charge of the younger ones, ages three and four, on the day of the event when they went to work. The four-year-old had shown signs of discomfort the previous night and was subsequently found unresponsive by the 13-year-old the next day. Jason returned home from work and called 911.
During the official investigation, items including a half-eaten lollipop were taken into evidence. This lollipop, later on January 23, 2023, was found to contain traces of fentanyl, a finding matched in the child’s post-mortem examination. Further inquiries highlighted Jason Moore’s alleged fentanyl use within the household. Hair tests from both parents were conducted, with Amanda Moore’s returning positive for multiple substances.
A bail of $250,000 was assigned to each individual, leading to their detention at Chester County Prison. A hearing was scheduled for August 23 in Downingtown.
