The family of Loren Chavez, a 41-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a murder-suicide event in Las Vegas, has initiated legal action against Davis Funeral Homes & Memorial Park. The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the funeral home after Chavez was mistakenly cremated.

Following her death last September in a case of domestic violence by her husband, Chavez’s family had chosen Davis Funeral Homes & Memorial Park to manage her final rites. Their plan was to have an open-casket funeral and subsequently bury her in a nearby location.

However, complications arose when Chavez’s parents visited the funeral home to provide her attire for the service. They were informed that Chavez’s details were not registered in their system. Shortly after, the funeral home contacted them regarding an “emergency.” Upon their return, the family was informed about an “accidental” cremation due to an employee’s oversight.

Christian Morris, the attorney representing the family, described the incident as a severe lapse, highlighting the apparent breach of the funeral home’s internal protocols that differentiate between bodies meant for burial and those for cremation.

The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of several staff members, which has caused significant emotional distress to the family. Chavez’s son has even sought professional counseling to manage the emotional aftermath.

The family is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, emphasizing the breach of trust they experienced. Delia Salcido, Chavez’s sister, expressed the family’s grief, emphasizing the lost opportunity for a proper goodbye.

Mike Wilfong, the general manager at Davis Funeral Homes and Memorial Park, has voiced his dedication to resolving the matter.
