A 76-year-old suspect has been charged with aggravated manslaughter on an elderly person after allegedly having a fight with a man at a golf course.

The confrontation led to the death of an 87-year-old man, Dean William Zook. The incident occurred on June 28 at Glenview Country Club in The Villages in central Florida, following a minor car accident.

Zook reportedly struck a vehicle, which 76-year-old Robert Edward Moore Jr. mistakenly believed to be his own. An on-site witness recounted that an unidentified white male confronted Zook about the accident. As Zook attempted to provide insurance details, the situation escalated, resulting in Moore punching Zook in the jaw with a closed fist.

Zook, despite efforts to defend himself, was overpowered. Moore departed upon realizing the mistaken vehicle identity. Zook’s condition deteriorated, exhibiting symptoms like slurred speech. Medical professionals later identified internal brain bleeding as the cause.

Zook passed away on July 16.

Investigators identified Moore as the suspect after noting his wearing the same attire in a golf-related article from November 2022. During his interrogation, Moore suggested he thought Zook was attempting to leave the scene. He was taken into custody and is currently held at the Sumter County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
