An eight-year-old boy was wounded when a 16-year-old teenager, armed with a knife, stormed the school before attempting suicide by setting himself on fire.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 23, in Bischofswerda, east of Dresden, Germany. The eight-year-old boy suffered injuries to his head and neck. He was airlifted to a hospital, where his condition remains critical.
The teenage assailant was overpowered and taken to a hospital. The exact motive behind the act remains unclear.
Authorities evacuated the school with photos from the scene signifying heavy police presence.
This incident came after barely months ago when a 12-year-old girl was allegedly brought into the woods by her friends and stabbed 32 times using a nail file. The young girl, identified as Luise F. by the prosecutor, died in the woodland in Freudenberg, Germany. The young perpetrators, aged 12 and 13 and classmates of the victim, confessed after Luise’s body was found near a cycling path. The search involved drones, cadaver dogs, and helicopters.
Commenting on the Freudenberg incident, Prosecutor Mario Mannweiler remarked, “This is, of course, a very unusual act, even for us.”
Investigations into these crimes are ongoing.
