4 Shot, 3 Killed While Playing Basketball

shooting incident at a basketball court in Philadelphia resulted in the death of three men, with another critically injured. The event occurred at approximately 6 pm on Friday, Aug. 11, at the basketball courts located at 8th and Diamond in North Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Police Department reported that five individuals in a vehicle fired shots at a group assembled on the court and then fled the scene. Deputy Commissioner James Kelly highlighted that children were in the vicinity during the shooting but were uninjured. Some bullets also hit nearby houses.

Isiah Williams, 21, later passed away at Temple University Hospital. Another individual, 23 years old, remains in critical condition with multiple gunshot injuries. Nyreese Moore, 22, and Naasir Folk, 24, were declared dead at the location.

Police retrieved around 50 shell casings from three distinct firearms at the scene. While evidence has been collected, no suspects have been apprehended, and the motive remains unclear. Deputy Commissioner Kelly believes the victims were specifically targeted.

Mayor Jim Kenney expressed his condolences to the affected families. In response to such incidents, the city offers a $10,000 reward for information on shooters near schools and parks. Additionally, over 100 surveillance cameras have been set up around recreational areas. The Homicide Unit continues its investigation into the matter.
