16 Dead, 36 Injured in Bus Crash With Trailer Truck

On Tuesday, August 22, a massive bus crash resulted in 16 fatalities and 36 injuries.

The accident occurred when a bus transporting 52 locals and migrants collided with a trailer truck on the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway in central Mexico near the border of Oaxaca and Puebla states. 

Oaxaca’s Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement confirming the incident.

Among the deceased were eight men and eight women, including a minor and a Venezuelan. The injured survivors were promptly transported to hospitals in Puebla for medical treatment.

The 52 passengers included 10 passengers from Venezuela who were hoping to gain legal entry to the United States.

The exact cause of the collision remains undisclosed, leading the prosecutor’s office to launch a thorough investigation.

Governor Salomón Jara Cruz of Oaxaca expressed condolences and support on Twitter.

Puebla’s interior ministry has initiated communication with federal government agencies and state authorities to coordinate efforts in providing necessary assistance to the victims.
