A police pursuit in Alabama took a startling turn when an eight-year-old child was found to be the driver of a stolen vehicle that crashed into another car, law enforcement reported.
Officers from the Montgomery Police Department were involved in a short chase around 11 am on July 11, after responding to a stolen vehicle report. Major Saba Coleman described how the officers attempted to stop the car, only to find the child driver unresponsive to their commands.
In an intersection, the chase ended as the stolen vehicle collided with another car. The report from Major Coleman confirmed that no injuries or harm resulted from the collision.
Further inspection of the stolen vehicle led to the discovery of a weapon.
The pursuit was closely followed by an eyewitness who was in contact with the police during the chase. Reflecting on their actions, the witness said, “When I realized it was a little boy, I had to make sure he was apprehended without causing further accidents or injuring himself or others.” The witness, “Snake” Knapp, told WSFA news that the boy also picked up two adult passengers on Norman Bridge Road, adding to the bizarre incident.
Major Coleman assured that the child is safely in custody at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility, the weapon has been secured, and the boy will be charged with first-degree robbery, attempting to elude and as a certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.
