A mystery continues to surround the death of a 25-year-old graduate student at Ohio State University, who had been missing since June 10 and whose remains were discovered on July 12.

In a body of water at an isolated quarry near the BP gas station, where she was last sighted, Amina Alhaj-Omar’s lifeless body was found. Her damaged car was also located abandoned in the vicinity.

Alhaj-Omar, who had been deepening her understanding of social work after finishing her undergraduate studies in criminology at Ohio State, vanished in circumstances that continue to puzzle investigators. As per the Columbus Dispatch, her family had earlier revealed that police thought she might have ventured into the quarry pond. The area yielded her jacket, shoes, and cell phone during the search.

At a press conference, Sergeant Joe Albert of Columbus police detailed that surveillance footage from the BP gas station showed Alhaj-Omar at 4:30 a.m., holding two kitchen knives, and then leaving the scene at around 6 a.m. The investigation into the murky circumstances surrounding Alhaj-Omar’s death is ongoing, with the authorities looking for any clue that could provide a clearer picture.

Her family, in an obituary, voiced their grief over their immense loss but also their gratitude for the twenty-five years they spent with Alhaj-Omar, cherishing her kind and glowing spirit.
