San Antonio, Texas: A four-year-old girl died after being found unresponsive in her family’s backyard pool in San Antonio.

Responding to an emergency call made at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, local authorities arrived at a family residence after the girl had been reported missing for about 30 minutes. The young girl, Jazida Hernandez Cervera, had drifted away from the sight of her family members during an outdoor gathering, according to Sergeant Washington Moscoso of the San Antonio Police Department. The child was later located unresponsive in the above-ground pool in the backyard. On-scene officers initiated CPR, and she was subsequently taken to the hospital, but all life-saving measures proved unsuccessful. The incident is currently under investigation to ascertain how the girl managed to access the pool without detection. The family asserted that the ladder to the pool had been removed.

No charges have been brought forward in relation to the incident.

A saddened Sgt. Moscoso expressed his condolences, stating, “It’s an overwhelmingly distressing situation. The family is facing an unimaginable ordeal, and the impact of this tragedy is felt by all involved.”
