A tragic incident unfolded on the afternoon of Saturday, July 15, when a man allegedly shot his wife and daughter in their suburban home’s driveway.
Police were called to the scene in Adelaide, Australia following reports of gunshots around 1:20 pm.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 51-year-old Aleksandra Vergulis and her 22-year-old daughter, Daniela Vergulis, in the driveway, both with gunshot wounds. The mother had already passed away by the time police arrived, while Daniela was rushed to a nearby hospital and is now reported to be stable.
After the shooting, the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Vasilis Vergulis, retreated into their house, prompting a three-hour standoff with police. After negotiations, Vergulis surrendered.
Vergulis now faces charges of murder and attempted murder, and he has been denied bail. His court appearance is slated for the upcoming Monday. As investigators try to piece together the events leading up to the incident, the local community mourns the death of Aleksandra Vergulis.
