Authorities in Waldorf, Maryland, recently announced they have charged a man with murder following the death of a woman who was struck by a stolen forklift.
The shocking event transpired on Sunday, July 2, around noon. Officers from the local sheriff’s office were called to a Lowe’s store on Crain Highway in Waldorf in response to a burglary and theft report. They discovered that a man had forcefully gained entry into the store and absconded with a forklift. The suspect then crashed through the back gates and drove it to a nearby Home Depot parking lot situated on Jefferson Farm Place.
In the parking lot, Gloristine Pinkney, 73, of Waldorf, was in her car sleeping when the forklift crashed into her vehicle. The terrified Pinkney left her car and tried to run away, but the suspect followed and ran over her with the forklift, resulting in her tragic death.
Diane Richardson, a spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, conveyed her disbelief at the strange event. She stated that they are currently working to piece together the evidence to understand the suspect’s motives.
In the aftermath of the crime, the suspect stole Pinkney’s vehicle and made his escape. However, the subsequent investigation led to the identification of Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, a 20-year-old Waldorf resident, as the primary suspect. Brown was arrested later that night after investigators discovered the victim’s car near his home.
According to Richardson, it doesn’t appear that the suspect and victim knew each other, suggesting the incident was a random attack.
Brown has been charged with multiple crimes, including theft, first- and second-degree murder, and assault. He is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center, awaiting further court proceedings.
