A dog attack in Florida has resulted in the death of a six-year-old boy, prompting his family to request the euthanization of the dog involved.
The incident, which occurred on July 4, is under investigation by local authorities to determine whether charges will be filed.
According to the North Port Police Department in North Port, Florida, the young victim, identified as Daylan Guillen, was mauled and later succumbed to his injuries at Tampa General Hospital. The cause of death was determined to be severe injuries sustained in the upper torso.
North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison acknowledged the heartbreak experienced by the child’s family, remarking on the profound tragedy. As both a father and pet owner, he empathized with the unimaginable loss they are facing.
Notably, there were no prior reports of aggression or incidents involving the dog in question. The family has requested that the dog, a three-year-old pit bull mix, be euthanized.
The animal is being held in quarantine by the Sarasota County Animal Services, and following a mandatory 10-day period, it will be put down at the owners’ request.
The police are also investigating whether any person will be held accountable for the boy’s death. Reports indicate that the family attests the dog had never displayed signs of aggression before.
The North Port community, particularly Daylan’s youth baseball league, is grieving over the loss. Remembered as a cheerful and kind-hearted child, Daylan participated in little league baseball and served as a bat boy for his older brother’s team.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family in covering the funeral expenses.
