On Monday, July 17, legendary singer Elton John stood in defense of Kevin Spacey at the actor’s sexual assault trial, testifying remotely from Monaco. Spacey, facing 12 charges that include sexual and indecent assault and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, has proclaimed his innocence, vehemently denying the allegations leveled against him.
In his testimony, John questioned the credibility of one accuser who claimed an unwarranted advance by Spacey during a car ride to John’s residence. Notably, this was a counterclaim to the assertion that Spacey forcefully grabbed the accuser during a drive to John’s gala ball, supposedly in 2004 or 2005.
John emphasized that Spacey made only one appearance at his gala ball, an annual event at his Windsor home in 2001. Furthermore, the singer claimed that on the evening of Spacey’s attendance, the actor stayed at his house and made a purchase at an auction benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
In a similar vein, during his two-day testimony last week, the actor acknowledged an awkward encounter under the influence of alcohol but denied allegations of inappropriate conduct. Spacey admitted to sharing regrettable but consensual encounters with two individuals, while dismissing a “crotch-grabbing” accusation as a fabrication.
