A five-year-old boy died in an accident in South Bend, Indiana, after his father accidentally ran over him with his car.

The incident happened in the parking area of an apartment complex, leading to the demise of the child, Jeremiah Holmes, on Sunday, July 23.

After receiving an emergency call around 10:30 pm Saturday night, St. Joseph County Police and other local law enforcement agencies responded immediately; the call reported an unresponsive child.

Investigations revealed the child’s father, 28-year-old Christopher Holmes, was the one involved in the unfortunate incident.

Even with immediate medical attention and transfer to a local hospital, Jeremiah could not overcome his injuries. Christopher, while evidently distraught, did not sustain any physical injuries. He cooperated with law enforcement during the early stages of investigation, which is ongoing.

The living arrangements of father and son, whether they were residing together or within the apartment complex, have not been verified. No information regarding possible charges has been communicated so far.

Contrary to initial reports from witnesses suggesting a shooting at the accident scene, a press release later clarified this was not the case.

Markia Gee has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to aid the grief-stricken family. The aim of this campaign is to raise funds for Jeremiah’s funeral arrangements. The family has expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences and encourages any additional assistance that can be offered.
