An accident occurred on Interstate 75 near the Ohio border on Sunday, July 16, resulting in the death of a young university student.

Lauren Collins, 18, was driving southbound shortly after midnight when a tire detached from a northbound truck and crashed into her windshield, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The loose tire, believed to have originated from a dual-wheel pickup truck with four rear axle tires, crossed over the concrete median and collided with the windshield of Collins’ 2012 Buick LaCrosse, causing extensive damage to her vehicle.

Upon responding to the distress call, emergency personnel from the Walton Fire Department skillfully extricated Collins from the wreckage. She was immediately transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with severe injuries, which unfortunately resulted in her death.

Collins was the sole occupant of her car at the time of the incident. Authorities are investigating to identify the truck and its driver involved in the accident.

Collins, originally from Independence, Kentucky, was a freshman majoring in fashion merchandising at the University of Kentucky. Her obituary revealed she had just graduated from high school in May 2022.

Expressing their condolences, a cousin of Collins took to Facebook to remember the cherished moments they had shared. The cousin expressed gratitude for the time spent together and described Collins as a beautiful soul who had now become a precious angel in heaven.
