The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has revealed the cause of death for Lisa Marie Presley.
Lisa Marie, who was the only child of the legendary musician Elvis and his wife Priscilla Presley, passed away due to complications arising from a small bowel obstruction.
The medical examiner’s report has indicated that the small bowel obstruction, which became strangulated, was triggered by adhesions that formed following Lisa Marie’s bariatric surgery. The 54-year-old star died on January 12.
Dr. Juan Carrillo, the Deputy Medical Examiner, acknowledged that such a complication is a recognized long-term risk of these types of surgical procedures.
Following her passing, tension grew within Lisa Marie’s family. Priscilla Presley, her mother, aimed to take control of Lisa Marie’s trust and wished to make Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, the primary trustee. This intent sparked conflict and legal disputes regarding the authenticity of a 2016 amendment to the trust that excluded Priscilla as a co-trustee.
However, those in Lisa Marie’s inner circle asserted that her primary wish was for her legacy to be passed on to her children. Joel Weinshaker, the managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, affirmed this, mentioning that Lisa Marie had expressed her intentions to Riley and her brother Benjamin Keough. By June, an agreement was reached, leading to Riley being named as the sole trustee of Lisa Marie’s estate.
Notably, just two days before her death, Lisa Marie attended the 2023 Golden Globe Award with her mother and actor Austin Butler. Her life was celebrated at a memorial service held at Graceland on January 22, where numerous individuals came to pay their final respects.
