A 32-year-old father from Ohio was arrested on Thursday, June 15, after he allegedly lined up his three young sons and shot them to death.
Keith Doerman, the father of the shooter Chad Doerman, is still grappling with the shocking act committed by his son, stating that his son had “simply cracked.” Keith and his wife, Gloria, residents of Port Richey, Florida, are struggling to understand their son’s actions and are unable to ascertain any motive behind the crime.
According to Keith, his son could have been wrestling with serious personal problems. But Keith hasn’t had an opportunity to communicate with his son since the shocking event, which limits his grasp of the situation. He voiced his suspicion that his son may have concealed many things from him.
Officers’ body-worn camera footage showed the chilling scene when they confronted Chad, who was coolly sitting adjacent to his firearm. The horrific scene unfolded at the family home in Clermont County, where it is alleged that Chad shot his three sons, aged three, four, and seven. The footage shows an officer ordering Chad to show his hands and rise, but he continues to sit.
Following the gruesome act, Chad reportedly admitted to the murders, stating that he had used his rifle to kill his sons. His daughter, Alexis, narrowly escaped and raised the alarm by screaming that her father was “killing everyone.” Chad is also believed to have shot the boys’ mother in the hand and has been indicted for aggravated murder.
Keith recalled his recent interaction with his son, stating that Chad appeared normal and described him as a person who loved fun. He stressed that Chad had no record of mental instability, aberrant behavior, or criminal activities. Keith dismissed an old report claiming that Chad had assaulted him in 2010 as inaccurate, noting the case was eventually dropped.
Just days before the tragic event, Chad had updated his Facebook profile picture to one featuring his three young sons. He had also uploaded numerous photos of the boys, with one showing him teaching them how to fish. The calamitous event has plunged the family into unimaginable grief.
