Three people died while several others were injured in a car crash involving members of the same family.
The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, June 17, on Freedom Road, about 40 miles south of Buffalo, New York.
Evan Klink, 21, was driving a Dodge truck when it veered into the opposite lane and collided with a Ford hatchback driven by his sister, Dahlia Klink, 24. Two minors, Molly Kibler, 6, who was Dahlia’s daughter, and Havanah Lopez, 17, were also in the Ford and were pronounced dead at the scene. Dahlia succumbed to her injuries on Sunday at the Erie County Medical Center.
Evan sustained minor injuries and was taken to the New York State Police Station in Warsaw for questioning. Another passenger in the Dodge, Cameron Klink, 19, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.
Dahlia’s other daughter, who has not been named, was also seriously injured and hospitalized.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Witnesses reported that the Dodge abruptly swerved into the oncoming lane. The speed at which Evan was traveling and whether the swerve was intentional is yet to be determined. The section of the road where the crash happened has a speed limit of 55 mph.
New York State Police are collaborating with the county District Attorney’s office to secure a subpoena for Evan’s blood sample. Social media posts from the victims’ relatives suggest that all passengers in both vehicles were related.
GoFundMe pages have been set up to support funeral costs for the victims.
