Alabama police are investigating the discovery of the body of a missing woman, found shot and burned.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Jermiera Ivory Fowler, had allegedly ventured out to meet a person regarding an online purchase before she disappeared. As per the Birmingham Police Department, Fowler was last seen on May 31 in Birmingham, Alabama.
A distress call reporting a burnt body led officers to a location on the 200 block of Sellers Road in Birmingham. On reaching the scene, they discovered Fowler’s body, heavily burned and displaying clear indicators of injury. Emergency services announced Fowler dead at the location, and an ensuing investigation revealed she had been shot.
The gruesome incident has left the community in shock. Herbert Brown, a local resident whose house borders the crime site, described his fright at seeing a large flame from his window and making the horrifying find of a burning body upon inspecting the situation. Firefighters arrived to put out the fire, and police officers carried out an exhaustive search of the area until morning.
Fowler’s death is currently being treated as a homicide by the Birmingham Police Department, and an active investigation is ongoing to track down those involved.
Although it was initially suspected that the victim’s disappearance may have been linked to a possible meeting with an individual over a Facebook Marketplace deal, authorities later indicated that they could not confirm that the meet-up took place.
