Local authorities in Oklahoma have discovered the remains of a man who went missing late last year, inside a storm drain.

The Woodward Police Department (WPD) reported that Carroll Lyndon Eagan, a 67-year-old resident of Oklahoma, was first reported missing on December 11, 2022. Eagan was known to frequent a specific convenience store in Woodward; however, he had not visited the store on December 10 or 11, as reported by the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs).

On Monday, June 5, the WPD received information about potential human remains in a storm drain located on 34th Street. Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the remains, which were in an advanced state of decay, were indeed human. Personal belongings found with the remains led authorities to believe they belonged to Eagan.

According to the police, it appears that heavy rains in Woodward in recent days washed the remains down the culvert and into the storm drain. The exact duration for which the body had been in the drain before its discovery remains unknown.

In January, Detective Darren Navratil stated that Eagan’s bank account had been active up until three days before his disappearance. Despite conducting searches in three areas based on phone pings, authorities were unable to locate the missing man.

The human remains were first spotted by a person walking near the drainage ditch on Monday, June 5. Later, the body was turned over to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner for identification. So far, foul play is not suspected in Eagan’s death.
