An 18-year-old woman was shot and killed while six others sustained injuries during a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 11.
The incident occurred at a Sunset Lane home in Antioch, a city in the Bay Area of California. According to reports, the shooting transpired after uninvited guests arrived at a birthday party for a 19-year-old man.
A total of seven people were struck by gunfire. One of the victims succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The remaining victims are expected to recover, as per officials.
The Antioch Police Department issued a statement indicating that the shooting occurred amidst the party when the uninvited guests arrived. This sudden development caused panic among attendees, resulting in their dispersal in various directions, including into the surrounding neighborhood. Many of the wounded people drove themselves to nearby hospitals.
Footage from the scene reveals law enforcement collecting bullet casings, while medical personnel can be seen transporting a stretcher out of the home. The aftermath of the incident displayed a scene cluttered with cups and cans.
A resident in the vicinity described the aftermath as chaotic, mentioning people hiding behind bushes and showing signs of frantic movement. The resident expressed that such acts of violence no longer astonish him, indicating a perceived change in the neighborhood.
Antioch police have yet to disclose any information about suspects or persons of interest. Their investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
