A tragic incident occurred involving the son of a former Red Sox first baseman, who is suspected of ending his eight-year-old son’s life before terminating his own on in their Massachusetts residence.

At around 8 am, the police discovered the presumed murder-suicide involving George Scott III, offspring of ex-Red Sox player George Scott, during a welfare check at the younger Scott’s New Bedford home.

The Bristol District Attorney’s office disclosed that George Scott III, aged 54, and his son, Dante Hazard, were found lifeless within the residence. The preliminary investigation proposes that Scott murdered his son prior to taking his own life. The exact circumstances, including the method used, will be ascertained by the medical examiner.

George Scott III, a resident of the Phillips Road house along with his son, was the son of former Red Sox star, George Scott, acclaimed for his nine seasons with the team throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Upon receiving the news about the incident, neighbor Courtney Colombo expressed her astonishment and disbelief, recounting George Scott III as a neighborly person. Colombo recalled Dante occasionally seen playing outside.

Just two weeks prior to this tragic incident, investigators had inspected the house which was linked to the disappearance of Lisa Hazard, the mother of the young victim. Lisa Hazard’s whereabouts have been unknown since March 2019, with her case yet to be resolved. George Scott III had been pinpointed as a person of interest in this investigation.

In the past, George Scott III had expressed his aspiration to emulate his father in baseball and other pursuits. In a previous interview, he lauded his father, George “Boomer” Scott, a former three-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove recipient, who boasted a distinguished career with the Red Sox from 1966 to 1979.
