A Connecticut man has been accused of drowning his mother in a park river.
Eric Meagan, 34, drowned his 56-year-old mother, Victoria Palmer. In a chilling 911 call, Meagan claimed that he committed the act to “keep the demons away.” The incident took place at the Harrybrooke River in New Milford, where Meagan contacted the police on Monday to report the killing.
During the call, Meagan admitted to dragging his mother into the river and submerging her for approximately 10 minutes until she ceased moving. Around 30 minutes after the incident, he calmly dialed emergency services to disclose his crime. When the dispatcher asked about the method he employed to end his mother’s life, Meagan responded, “In the water.”
Meagan also claimed to have been tormented by demons and said that he no longer sensed their presence following his mother’s death. He provided his exact location along the river, which enabled law enforcement to apprehend him shortly afterward. Palmer was retrieved from the water and immediately transported to New Milford Hospital, where she was declared dead.
According to Meagan, he had been struggling in the weeks leading up to the incident and had sought help for mental health issues. However, it remains unclear whether he was undergoing treatment at the time of the tragic event. Meagan now faces a murder charge and is being held in custody with a bond set at $2 million. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 11.
