An Alabama woman, Loretta Kay Carr, 45, has been arrested and charged with capital murder and kidnapping.
The arrest is in relation to the disappearance and death of Mary Elizabeth Isbell nearly two years ago. AL.com reported that Carr was taken into custody on June 25.
According to court documents, Carr, of Fort Payne, is accused of kidnapping Isbell in October 2021. Isbell, who was 37 years old at the time, was last seen driving a dark-colored Jeep. She was reported missing in January 2022, and recent investigations have led authorities to conclude that Carr intentionally caused Isbell’s death by pushing her off a cliff.
Carr is being held without bail at the DeKalb County Jail since her arrest. In response to the capital murder charge, she has requested a preliminary hearing, asserting a lack of evidence to support the charges. The police have not disclosed any information about Carr’s possible motive for the crime or the nature of her relationship with Isbell.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive.
